This lecture aimed to assist instructors in understanding how to effectively integrate generative AI (GenAI) and digital tools into EMI courses in order to enhance classroom interaction and improve student learning outcomes. Through Professor Shih-Min Lo’s sharing of his extensive experience in EMI teaching and digital transformation, the session guided faculty members in mastering practical application strategies while fostering a supportive and English-friendly learning environment.

The lecture was delivered by Professor Shih-Min Lo from the Department of International Business at National Chi Nan University. Drawing on his firsthand EMI teaching experience, Professor Lo demonstrated a variety of GenAI and digital tools to help instructors understand how these technologies can be effectively incorporated into EMI courses.

At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Lo shared teaching materials, instructional videos, and publicly available resources from his EMI courses, enabling participants to continue referencing and applying them after the session. He then presented video recordings of actual EMI classes to illustrate students’ common anxiety and resistance toward speaking English, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe and supportive learning environment and using digital tools to reduce students’ psychological barriers to English use.

During the lecture, Professor Lo demonstrated the use of ChatGPT’s conversational features for speaking practice, helping instructors explore how AI can support English oral training. He also introduced ElevenLabs, explaining how Chinese-language lecture videos can be converted into English voiceovers, including AI-generated voices that simulate the instructor’s own voice, thereby increasing students’ sense of familiarity and acceptance.

In addition, Professor Lo shared the use of Mentimeter as a real-time interactive tool to enhance classroom engagement through live polling and instant feedback. He further demonstrated tools such as Gemini and NotebookLM, showing how handwritten notes or teaching materials can be organized, summarized, and visualized, highlighting the practical applications of AI in instructional material development and course design. The lecture also briefly introduced tools such as Otter and Coggle, explaining their supportive roles in real-time English translation, class summarization, and collaborative group learning.

The session concluded with a Q&A segment, during which participating instructors actively raised questions regarding subscription requirements for AI tools and their practical implementation in teaching contexts, resulting in lively interaction. Overall, the event successfully showcased diverse applications of AI and digital tools in EMI teaching, provided instructors with concrete and feasible instructional design references, and effectively achieved the training objectives of the lecture.
